At H Tredwin & Son Ltd, we take great pride in the range of services we offer, and in the care and personalisation that goes into each and every one.

We invite you to guide us on your preferred budget, we take inspiration from your loved one’s personality to suggest ways to make the service truly individual, and we ensure you have the final say at every step.

A Guide into What We Offer…

Unlike some other funeral directors, we do not offer set packages, as we have found that no two funerals are ever the same — even when a package is used. We value the bespoke details and individual touches that make each farewell unique.

We understand that having a guide can be especially helpful — particularly in situations like this, where not everyone has had the time to carefully plan and define what they want their service to look like. To support you in that process, we’ve outlined below the typical brackets that our services tend to fall under.

Traditional

The funeral service you imagine in your minds eye, reflective of services you may have attended previously with english funeral traditions throughout.

  • Hearse and Limousine (not compulsory)

  • Bearers - be that family or our team

  • Service held at a crematorium or religious setting

  • Service Sheets

  • Flowers

  • Music, hymns and or poems

Reflection

A reflection service is a more intimate affair. The service itself is shorter and only attended by close family and friends.

  • Hearse or van transportation

  • Bearers or resting in situ

  • Service held at a crematorium, religious setting or alternative space

  • Service sheets

  • Flowers

  • Music and eulogy

Modern

This is a popular take on a traditional service with eco conscious elements and a more relaxed approach.

  • Use of our hearse or eco alternative van

  • Bearers or resting in situ

  • Service held at a crematorium, religious setting, natural burial ground or alternative space

  • Service sheets

  • Flowers

  • Music, hymns, poems and eulogies

Direct

A direct service elevates decision and stress from family or friends. Opting for a direct service means handing over control to us to care for your loved one and lay their body to rest either through cremation or burial with little to no input from yourselves.

We will care for and look after them just as we do with everyone and return their ashes to you to celebrate their life the way you wish too.

However, if you are mindful of costs and would like an indication of what to expect, we recommend referring to our price list as a helpful guide.

Here are a few extras we are proud to offer every family no matter the service chosen …

We are able and always willing to support families anywhere across the UK and beyond. Wherever you need us, we can travel to assist you. We also have experience in repatriation, including caring for and collecting those who are being returned from overseas after passing away.

While much of our work is local, we are by no means limited to it. We understand that many people move away from the South West during their lives, often with the wish of returning home to be laid to rest. We regularly support local families arranging services for loved ones who lived elsewhere, and we have also helped in difficult situations where someone passes away while travelling.

The choice of a male or female funeral director

With both Louise and Nick fully trained and experienced in conducting funeral services, we are able to offer the choice of either a male or female funeral director, should you have a preference.

Each provides a professional, traditional approach, while giving you the opportunity to select the person who feels most appropriate. This added choice allows you to personalise the service further, ensuring it is as fitting and meaningful as possible for your loved one.

As of the end of 2025 we are now able to offer everyone in our care the opportunity to take their final journey in the newest Jaguar hearse.

We have upgraded our vehicle fleet to the newest Jaguar models to keep up-to-date and give back to our families and community.

Nick Tredwin has always been keen to keep Jaguar hearses, just as the Royal Family do. If it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for us.

Alternative Vehicles

Below is a selection of images showcasing some of the alternative transport arrangements we have provided over the years.

We are always open to making a funeral more personal, and one meaningful way to do this is by moving away from the traditional hearse in favour of something that better reflects the individual.

Over the years, we have arranged a wide variety of options, including motorcycle hearses, horse-drawn carriages, and Land Rover hearses. We have also incorporated deeply personal vehicles that belonged to the deceased, such as low loaders, steam rollers, tractors, trailers, and drays.

While we have already arranged many unique options, we are always happy to explore and source new, individual forms of transport.

Our Fleet

At the end of 2025, we upgraded our fleet to include the latest Jaguar hearse and limousine models, ensuring we remain up to date while offering families the very highest standard of service.

Every family we serve is entitled to use our fleet—whether that’s the hearse alone or both the hearse and limousine. Whatever your needs, our fleet is here to support you.

Everyone in our care is brought to, and looked after at, our Chapel of Rest in Sampford Arundel — just two miles outside Wellington.

Our Chapel of Rest is located in the old Malt Yard building, where H Tredwin & Son first began in the late 1800s. Surrounded by rolling fields and farmland, it is a naturally peaceful and comforting place — even if we do say so ourselves.

Here, we can host viewings for family and friends who wish to visit their loved one*.

There is on-site parking and disabled access for anyone who may need assistance.

We kindly ask that appointments are made in advance before visiting.

*No viewing is ever arranged without the permission of the next-of-kin
